MATH
This week, 1C's math goal this week was to learn how to compose and decompose a number (i.e. number bonds).LANGUAGE ARTS
WRITING 1C has been focusing on many stories about the Gingerbread Man. We have read the classic tale along with Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends.
The students got very creative and created their own plan to catch the gingerbread man. I loved reading about their awesome ideas. Their writing focus was centered around making a good copy. Their finished work had to showcase their best printing skills, contained proper spacing between words, and proper punctuation after each sentence. Way to go 1C!
DAILY 5 The Grade 1's are working towards their goal of 15 minutes during Read to Someone. Keep up the great work Grade 1. While they reading the students are practicing the Chunky Monkey, Stretchy Snake, Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish strategy.
Chunky Monkey looks for hunks and chunks they know inside a word.
Stretchy Snake reminds the students to "S-T-R-E-T-C-H" it out and to say each sound slowly then say it fast.
Eagle Eye serves as a reminder to look at the pictures for clues when reading a book.
Lips the Fish looks at the beginning and ending sound of a word.
