MATH
This week, 1C's math goal this week was to learn how to compare numbers. Their goal this week was to compare numbers to 10. The students used the symbols <, >, and = to compare two numbers. They learned terms such as greater than and less than.LANGUAGE ARTS
LISTENING GAMES I read the book, Too Many Toys by David Shannon to 1C this week. Our phonological awareness activities were focused around the book this week. Spencer has too many toys. His mom falls over them, his dad trips over them, there are toys absolutely everywhere in the house. His mom and dad say it's time to give some of them away. Reluctantly, Spencer packs up some toys in a box to give away, except for one.
WRITING 1C was wondering what they would look like if they were a gingerbread person. They had a chance to draw what their gingerbread house would look like. Finally, the students chose who they would run away from if they were a gingerbread person (i.e. a person or animal). Next week, 1C will be writing about ways to catch a gingerbread man.
WORDS THEIR WAY Throughout the week, the students explored the -et, -en and -eg word family with words like pet, jet, let, hen, pen, men, peg, leg, beg.
DAILY 5 The Grade 1's are working towards their goal of 15 minutes during Read to Someone. This week they made it to 13 minutes and 7 seconds! Keep up the great work Grade 1. While they reading the students are practicing the Chunky Monkey, Stretchy Snake, Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish strategy.
Chunky Monkey looks for hunks and chunks they know inside a word.
Stretchy Snake reminds the students to "S-T-R-E-T-C-H" it out and to say each sound slowly then say it fast.
Eagle Eye serves as a reminder to look at the pictures for clues when reading a book.
Lips the Fish looks at the beginning and ending sound of a word.
