LISTENING GAMES I read the book, by to 1C this week. Our phonological awareness activities were focused around the book this week. In this schoolyard story, Jean is mean because she thinkis she is the boss of the playground. She has the rest of the kids so scared of her that they don't play, run, swing, or jump, until she does it first...until one day a new girl comes and plays and runs and swings and jumps *before* Jean.
WRITING 1C focused on writing sentences that contain a capital letter, a period, and have proper spacing in between words. This week, the students wrote a letter to Santa.
WORDS THEIR WAY Throughout the week, the students explored the -ot, -op and -og word family with words like hot, pot, hop, top, log, frog.
DAILY 5 The Grade 1's are working towards their goal of 15 minutes during Read to Someone. This week they made it to 13 minutes and 7 seconds! Keep up the great work Grade 1. While they reading the students are practicing the Chunky Monkey, Stretchy Snake, Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish strategy.
Chunky Monkey looks for hunks and chunks they know inside a word.
Stretchy Snake reminds the students to "S-T-R-E-T-C-H" it out and to say each sound slowly then say it fast.
Eagle Eye serves as a reminder to look at the pictures for clues when reading a book.
